“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?”
2 Corinthians 6:14
A yoke is an instrument used to lock animals together. They are bound in the field to do the work of their master. They are equally yoked and seem to understand they have the same purpose. Rarely do you see two different animals yoked together. Usually a horse is with another horse, or an ox is with another ox, and so forth. Even the farmer knows that two animals of the same species will produce better results than two animals with different characters.
So it is with Christians. Single believers should never seek to be married to a non-believer. Marriage, like the yoke, locks you into a commitment. Trouble waits in the horizon of life when you go against the instruction of the Lord. The fellowship and communion that should exist in a marriage will not be present when a saint marries a sinner. Two different mindsets will pull and tear at one another, ultimately destroying the marriage. Imagine the chaos in the field when two different masters are giving opposite instructions to two different animals. The field becomes barren of harvest, because nothing will get done correctly to produce fruit. Seek the Lord for your spouse. Ask God to send you a companion. If you desire to be married, you need a spouse that loves to praise, serve, and worship the Lord as much as you do. You will still experience challenges in a sanctified marriage, but having the same mind and spirit will guarantee victory in any situation.
“Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.” 1 Corinthians 7:25
Every single Christian is a virgin (under the stipulation that you are not committing fornication). Your past does not dictate who you are in the present. When you give your life to the Lord through the plan of salvation you become a new creature or creation. All things become new, and that includes your sexual identity (2 Corinthians 5:17). Paul was a single man, and he was able to encourage the single men and women in the church from experience. He never said that he didn’t face temptation, but he gave all the credit to God for being able to keep himself from committing fornication.
Being a virgin is not something weird, creepy, or belittling. In fact, to be a virgin is a great honor. Paul even said he wished that every man would be as himself(1 Corinthians 7:7). He had an exceptionally strong anointing on his life, and because he did not have the responsibilities that accompany marriage,he was able to do incredible things that brought strength to the Body of Christ.
Value the time that you have now as a single Christian, and use it to become more grounded in the principles of God’s word. You can live an extraordinary life under the grace and mercy of our God being a virgin. Your stand and illustration of Holiness is needed in the church. Know that keeping yourself from fornication is victory not only for your soul, but also to them that look on you to be an example.
