Gazing upward, my heart soars high,
Just like the dinosaurs in the sky.
White cotton mountains sailing to me,
What will imagination make of thee?
I smile and watch as they float by,
Never to fear, never to cry.
My childish eyes see all shadows fade.
Leaving me only a happy parade.
Something of age changes a heart,
Eyes no longer see sky’s playful art.
My head yearns a pillow, no longer sweet grass.
Time is listless, making its pass.
Time for play is no more a part,
Of a day or hour, nor a minute’s embark.
What happened to joy? To hope? To love?
What happened to my skies above?
Life overtakes and stamina dies,
Along with the dinosaurs in the sky.
Childish eyes corrupted by pain.
What really, Adulthood, have I to gain?
No time to admire, too tired to try.
It’s all for naught, with only a sigh.
But somewhere down deep, I long for the smile,
That follows the dinosaurs once in a while.
On knees before God, I know I must pray.
My heart has grown weak, calloused and gray.
He lovingly made all beauty – all things,
Yet I cannot thank, I cannot sing.
Inevitable change, some would say,
No longer a child, forget about play.
It seems the white mountains are gone for good.
I’d call them back, if only I could.
I’d like to say I found all I had lost,
But I’m still working – still counting the cost.
God has granted a softness of heart,
As I search for Him and a brand new start.
Though childhood is gone and memories tossed,
I’ll yet gain back before winter’s frost,
The laughter and joy, and soaring up high,
And I’ll watch for the dinosaurs in the sky.

I hope to never stop watching for the dinosaurs in the sky! Fantastic, Rachel!
Oh, I loved it! The Dinosaurs in the clouds reminded me of "Puff The Mighty Dragon..." It is a similar message of growing up and leaving behind our childhood imaginations that are "really" so important as not to forget as they will be needed in adulthood on occasion. I loved it. Thank you for your Dinosaurs!...Bonnie
