TITLE: "THE LORD IS WITH YOU THROUGH YOUR JOYS AND SORROWS!"
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: “The joy of the Lord is my strength!”
SCRIPTURE: Ruth 4:15: “And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him. (KJV)”
The Book of Ruth is usually looked upon as a love story. But, when the events of this particular book unfold, there is nothing lovely going on for the people that lived in Bethlehem-judah. The Book of Ruth reveals a famine in the land during the time of the judges. Therefore, because of this famine, the narration states that a certain man named Elimelech moved his family to Moab (which was a foreign and heathen land). Elimelech chose to be self-reliant in finding provisions for his family. Rather than put his faith and trust in the Lord to provide for their needs; while they were in their homeland. Since, the name itself, “Bethlehem” means “House of Bread”. Elimelech did not wait for the Lord to provide “bread” for the land again. He chose to take matters into his own hands. As a result, his family suffered great tragedies…Elimelech and his sons paid with their life.
Sometimes, when it seems as though your life is going through a dry spell, “be still” and know that the Lord is with you. Life’s problems or sin have a way of making a person stay in desert places longer than what he or she would like to stay. Especially, when a person is not trusting and waiting on the Lord to open doors for a seemingly impossible situation. However, as the events in the Book of Ruth continue to develop, Naomi found herself facing a life with difficulties. She had lost her husband and two sons while they lived in this foreign land. Therefore, this meant that she did not have any relatives to comfort her through this tremendous time of sorrow. But, guess what? The Lord always has a “ram in the bush”. The Lord had given Naomi’s daughter-in-law Ruth, a heart of compassion for her mother-in-law. The Lord, the Creator of Heaven and earth is always with us, whether we are facing tears of sorrow or times of joy.
Chapter 1 of Ruth starts out with Naomi’s sorrows and ends with an abundant blessing in Chapter 4 for both Ruth and Naomi. Ruth, a foreigner and Gentile returned with Naomi to Bethlehem-judah. Naomi and Ruth came to the “House of Bread”; where Jesus,”The Bread of Life” would be born at a later time. Therefore, Ruth 4:14-17 states, (14) And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. (15) And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him. (16) And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it. (17) And the women her neighbors gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David. (KJV)”
Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi never thought their lives would amount to a favorable life. Especially, since they were two widows in a society that did not favor women. But, it did not matter. They were favored by God. The same applies to you; you are favored by the Lord. I would like to encourage you to keep walking with the Lord as you put your trust in His Holy Word. He is the Creator and He controls everything; whether you are in a time of sorrow or experiencing perfect joy. God’s plan is for us to live an abundant life through Jesus Christ. SALVATION PRAYER: “My friend…Are you willing to surrender your life to Jesus Christ today? The choice is yours. If you are reading this devotional and you do not have a “personal relationship” with the Lord and you would like to know how to receive this free and precious gift. God wants every human that passes through this life to know there is hope through Jesus Christ. Therefore, Romans 6:23 states, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. As a result, any person who wants to be reconciled with God; can kneel or stand right where they are and repeat this prayer: “Lord, I know that I am a sinner and I have not been living the life You want me to live. I can never live this type of life without Your help and strength. I am asking You Lord, to please forgive me for my sins. Lord Jesus, I believe that You paid the penalty for my sins on the cross and You have risen again. I am opening the door of my heart for You Lord Jesus to live and take control of my life. I surrender my mind, body, soul and spirit to You as my Lord and Savior. Lord, thank You for hearing my prayer and giving me the gift of eternal life. Amen!” After repeating this prayer, you are now part of the family of God. Jesus has made a special invitation and a promise to everyone that opens the door of his or her heart to Him. He states in Revelations 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” I pray that you will dine with Jesus today!
FOR GROWTH AND STRENGTH: (1) Begin to surround yourself with other believers in Jesus Christ. (2) Read your Bible and pray every day, so that you can get to know our Heavenly Father. (3) Find a local church, where the Word of God is being taught as the inspired, inerrant, infallible, and final authority of God. Praise God for your first step towards His Kingdom!
