This Blog is a sequel to “The Money That Didn’t Talk” listed below. I trust you will choose to read both. Thanks!
“Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3:13-18)
American politics has had many strange bed fellows, down through the ages. All manner of candidates have emerged from all walks of life. Some successful, some not so successful. One prominent candidate was the little Judge, George C. Wallace. His style of political rhetoric was unsurpassed. One couldn’t help but like the little judge, as he seemed to always be open in his political beliefs.
This successful third-party candidate, according to the internet research, Wallace burst onto the national political scene by addressing himself to the increasing levels of cynicism, pessimism, alienation, and estrangement; the increasing concern with law and order, social issues, and the war in Vietnam. Wallace believed he was the "different" candidate--the one who had the best interests of the disgruntled, common citizen at heart. In his words:
"You can take all the Democratic candidates for President and all the Republican candidates for President. Put them in a sack and shake them up. Take the first one that falls out, grab him by the nape of the neck, and put him right back in the sack. Because there is not a dime's worth of difference in any of them."
So, was the little Judge, as he was well-known due to a previous pastime of his, a political prophet? Maybe so, maybe not. However, it simply blows my mind to see so many would-be conservative politicians on both sides of the political spectrum, seeming to turn on their conservative ideals on a number of important conservative issues.
Do they not realize American is at a critical state? More than ever before, America needs true God-fearing conservative patriots to stand up and be counted, and to follow the founding documents of America’s republic. Now, more than ever our nation needs to turn back to the dictates of Holy Scripture.
In this fast-paced world of ours, any given country may be totally free one moment and then totally under communist control the next. One need only surf the main news outlets to see just what I mean. I see a mass contention of fence jumpers.
I truly hope and trust that these politicians, who are jumping from side to side, or simply sitting on the politician fence, don’t tear their political clothing or get a splinter. That would be so bad, wouldn’t it?
Nonetheless, enough of my soap box for now. In any case, on with my story, my half-awake, half-asleep, half-conscious vision I have entitled “It Blows My Mind.” You may agree, or choose not to agree with its intention, but I do hope you read all about it.
Think I’ll just consume my nightly sleep formula of warm milk and cookies, and turn in for the night. I surely hope I don’t have another of those weird message dreams, visions, or whatever they may be.
Anyway, tomorrow will come all too soon, and my day is already planned out. I will be leaving work a little early to go vote. I haven’t really made up my mind yet who to vote for. Sadly, all the candidates seem to be like-minded.
Then it happened, I saw a vision unlike any I’ve ever seen. Is it real? I couldn’t doubt it, for I was there. Why me, I ask myself? How unlikely that this would happen to me, a retired college religious professor. But it did, So, what was the message, the meaning of it all?
I found myself in the midst of a big, bustling metropolis. In the center of all the traffic was a large, domed capital building behind a big fence. What I saw was so bizarre I just couldn’t believe my eyes. Men, seemingly hundreds of them, all dressed in business suits, climbing back and forth over this big fence, as if they were going in and out of building. Some were just sitting there atop the fence, as if they didn't know which direction to move.
What was even more bizarre was that all these men were draped with some sort of red or blue banner. The red ones had an elephant picture, while the blue ones had a donkey picture.
And what topped it all off, some of the men sitting on the fence were apparently swapping the colored banners with each other, while others appeared to be exchanging money as they climbed back and forth.
I have always considered myself to be an engaged citizen, alert to the affairs of public officials, but this scene really took the cake. It blew my mind! I was close to the action, but no one paid me any attention, even when I attempted to engage in conversation. It was as if my presence didn’t matter. They were too busy doing their thing, negotiating or bargaining with each other.
However, this fence climbing and sitting scene didn’t last long, as a sudden unexpected storm arose out of nowhere, with an impressive display of lightning and thunder dancing all around the politicians. Strangely, the storm only concentrated on the area around these men. (Daniel 2:21)
When this sudden, unexpected storm subsided, all the politicians had disappeared. They all were missing. In their place was a group of simple, ordinary citizens, all carrying Bibles in hand, singing and praising as if they were in church.
Then a man from within the group emerged as a leader and said, “Let’s all go in, it’s time to vote on the all-important issues at hand. Our religious freedoms are at stake.”
That’s when it ended, this eye-opening vision. The scene was done and so was I.
For some uncontrollable, or divinely directed reason, I couldn’t shake this most unusual vision from my memory. It followed me all the way to the voting booth. One thing for sure, however, I now know exactly how I will be voting. I know now, as a God-fearing citizen that voting is my right and privilege. I must hurry before the polling station closes. Amen!
(Matthew 22:21) Jesus said "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." (Romans 13:1) "Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God."
Those were the good old days, when campaigning was virtually a face-to-face personal validation. There were no made-up TV political commercials, no untruthful newspaper endorsements, no pretend filling of the church pulpits, no Hollywood celebrity fixation ads, and the like.
It was a real, live person-to-person encounter of a candidate speaking from a big flatbed truck platform, to the tune of a country music band backdrop. Oftentimes, the candidate would open up to questions from those standing around.
That was a time when politicians said what they meant and did as they said, and sealed it all by a simple handshake. It was a time when our country's founding documents and the Bible, were revered by all. Yes, today’s environment certainly “Blows my mind.”
I remember growing up in high school having the Bible as a regular accredited course; Old Testament study one year, New Testament study the next year. We were even given extra credit for presenting the required daily devotions in class. My, how things quickly change! Is it any wonder that America is going through tough times in all aspects of culture?

So, does America still have a chance? Yes, if we will stop showing our arrogance by doing our own prideful thing (Judges 21:25), and do the will of the Father (Matthew 12:0). God said it and I believe it, "There's nothing new under the sun, for all is vanity."
When we look at life's seemingly endless circles and paradoxes, we could very well conclude that all is futile. When we see the powers-to-be in control of our lives, we may feel all that we do is useless or wasted. However, as Christians our lives should be enjoyed to the fullest, realizing that they are a gift from God (Eccl. 3:12-13), (Eccl. 5:18-19) (Eccl.8:15) (Eccl. 9;7-9) And the wisest man who ever lived confirmed that God will eventually judge all men (Eccl. 3:16-17) (Eccl. 12:14).
In Psalm 36 we have an equivalent to our introductory Scripture. There is no fear of God in men's hearts (Psalm 36:1), and everyone does his own thing (Psalm 36:2), as they unwisely speak evil and deceit (Psalm 36:3-4).
However, in (Psalm 36:5-9) the mood changes, and we see God's sovereign power working for our redemption, and the petition for God to continue His protective love (Psalm 36:10-11). Then in (Psalm 36:12) we see the defeat of the wicked. Can we match Psalm 36 with today's world? Can we change today’s world? I think so. (II Chronicles 7:14) Amen!
