When God created human being, He blessed them saying “Be fruitful” (Gen. 1:28), however often we find ourselves as fruitless. What is the reason for this?
“For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.”
Luke 6:43 (NKJV)
Our fruitfulness is directly related to the treasure we have stored in our hearts…
Jesus further said…
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45 (NKJV).
Knowingly or unknowingly we are treasuring our heart either with good things or with bad things. Our addiction to the social media to view daily general stuff made available to us will surely backslide us in faith and create in us an inclination to sin.
It is said about Smith Wigglesworth, the great man of God that he even refrained from reading newspapers, for he said….
“If I read the newspaper I come out dirtier than I went in. If I read my Bible, I come out cleaner than I went in, and I like being clean!”
What was the result? The world has never seen a great God’s minister like Smith Wigglesworth, the Lord used him to heal countless people including bringing back to life 14 dead people.
The Psalmist proudly said….
“Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.”
Psalms 119:11 (NKJV)
Does that not mean that if God’s Word is not the treasure we store in our heart, the things we have stored in our heart is actually leading us to sin and fruitlessness?
God has planted us and commanded us to be fruitful, He has provided all the means that we may be fruitful and He will surely visit us one day to see how we are…..and if…we are unfruitful….this is what God can do to us…
“And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.”” Mark 11:13-14 (NKJV)
“Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”” Mark 11:20-21 (NKJV)
In the above example, it is true that Jesus visited the fig tree when it was not the season of the figs, however we are never off-season, we are expected to be fruitful at all times.
God seeks His satisfaction and is pleased in our fruitfulness and will bless us if we stay, walk and grow in His will, His provisions will satisfy us even in the harshest wilderness as He did for Abraham and his family, yet if we rebel against Him, He can rain fire and brimstone even in the well-watered and green Sodom and Gomorrah as happened to Lot and his family and destroy us and the whole world will know this as a city burnt and submerged under the Dead sea due to the wrath of the Lord.
Fruitfulness is not an optional requirement, it is God’s command for us and is the direct result of our choices.
May God give us the wisdom and discernment to carefully choose the treasures of our life leading to our fruitfulness.
