What do you desire? What do you want out of this life? How far do you want to excel in ministry, in marriage, in parenthood, in your profession, or in your finances? Have you checked with God on whether your plans are line up with His plan for your life, or are you moving ahead without Christ as the Head?
It is the Lord’s will that His children are blessed in every area of life, and it is the Lords will that the desires of your heart be fulfilled, but there’s a catch. The desires of your heart must be fashioned to God’s will.
Many times we want to dive into life without testing the waters. I have to admit, I loved the sense of adventure and even the adrenalin rush I got when I sometimes took risks to reach my goals, but I’ve learned that risks are not part of God’s plan. He gives us directions that are precise and clear. Each command is to be followed by the letter to reach God’s purpose. We have to constantly remind ourselves that it’s not about us, but it’s about the Lord’s will being done. Proverbs 16:2 says, “All the ways of a man [are] clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits”. The things we desire to do always seem to be right, but God can see the end result before we can. He knows if what we plan to do will benefit us and hurt someone else, or hurt us and benefit someone else. I believe that God’s will is perfect, no faults or errors, everything happening the way it should.
So, how do we get to a place where everything is going exactly as God planned? The scripture says “ delight thyself also in the Lord, and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart”, Psalms 37:4. The Hebrew word for delight means to be soft or pliable, and to be delicate.
Unfortunately, the second part of this scripture, “he will give you the desires of your heart”, is where all the focus is placed, because this is where preachers and teachers constantly lead us. They isolate one part of the verse to make us clap and dance, but rob us of the most important key, “delight thyself also in the Lord”. We need to understand why and how God will give us the desires of our hearts.
First, God says that you and I have to be soft and pliable. We must have the willingness to be shaped and molded into what God wants. It’s easier to make a bowl out of clay than it is to make one out of stone. Sure the stone bowl can be made, but there are more tools that have to be used. It involves more strenuous procedures by the hands of the maker. One hard stroke can break the stone rendering it useless. God can’t use people with stony hearts. As soon as they receive instructions or reproof that doesn’t coincide with their own desires they fall away from God. We have all experienced reproof and correction during our Christian walk, and sometimes we didn’t like it. I mean seriously, what child enjoys a spanking? But thank God he chastens those He loves, Hebrews 12:6.
If we never receive correction from God then how can He truly say that He loves us? Shouldn’t we expect a Father that knows what is best for us to at least try to reprove us if what we are doing is wrong, even if we think we’re right? But we have to be soft and delicate to His discipline so that God can break us down easily. Clay can always be reshaped as long as it stays on the potter’s wheel. When we remain pliable in the hands of a loving Father we’ll soon find that our desires have become God’s perfect will.

This was great. Of course, every single one of us wants the desires of our hearts to come to pass--this piece points out (and I have found in my own life) that when you are delighting in the Lord, the rest comes naturally. In fact, I have found that the only true thing my heart desires is more of God. I still get the 'greedies' but they are more correctly in place when I am listening to Him. You already know what I mean because you wrote it down for the rest of us. Keep going--I am anxiously awaiting your next posting.
