We are told in the Scripture to “Redeem the time, because the days are evil.” (troubling, troubled) Ephesians 5: 15-16
Little wonder that we are challenged when TIME is scrutinized.
During a training class for preaching, I was assigned the word “time” to prepare a 10 minute sermon. What I prepared frankly caused me to feel claustrophobic. Little wonder that we seem to never get the To Do List done.
A full 24 hour day consists of 1440 minutes. Think upon that. Psalm 90:12
The day is divided into 3 sections, based on our American culture of sleeping 8 hours, working 8 hours, and having 8 hours remaining for everything else we do.
The “everything else” we do - includes getting ready for work, driving there and back, shopping, house cleaning, paying bills, bathing the children, helping with homework, and the multiple other things that we are required to do. That is 480 minutes to get personal life done each day.
Three divisions of 480 minutes to do all the required of us!
As for our time on the job, the good management of “time” becomes apparent, that we need to carefully plan our time so as to be honest produces for our employers.
It is fortunate that most people do not work during the weekends. But many people do work a second job. Often those are single parent families. That is sad because they have no options based on need, and family relationships suffer.
Over the years that I have been thoughtful about this crunch of time on our lives. I have decided that simplifying life by downsizing, lowering my perfectionist standards for cleaning from scrupulously clean, down to clean.
IF we allow our To Do List to rule our lives will then be too busy to be a good spouse, parent, friend, Christian Disciple, or peaceful person.
Imperative to our life in every way, on every level, is available time to read the Bible and to pray. From those actions we gain strength, wisdom, and life.
Little wonder the Bible advises us to pay attention to “TIME” and to be wise in its management.
A day will come for all of us when we depart this life and we all want to hear the Lord say to us, “Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord.” Ecclesiastes 9: 10 Matthew 25:23
WE do not all have equal access to many of life’s resources, but we are all given the same hours in a day. Time is a commodity we all share equally.
