Beautifully magnificent, with nary a flaw, she stands stage-set frightened, her full skirts billowing in the violent storm's hot breath, frantically clutching her beloved little Toto to her newly budding breasts in one arm, her other upraised to fend off
flying debris and nasty witches.
"You are most tragically incorrect," whispered the brilliant jewel of the garden, supping nectar from the sky-blue morning glories. "I am the first of her collection, her most treasured. She cherishes me as I play 'Somewhere In Time' exquisitely," hummed the sparkling justifiably proud little hummingbird. "She so loved the movie starring Christopher Reeve -
so romantic and handsome . . .
"Oh, you both are so off! She loves me so much her lover picked me, my perfect little matching jewelry box and my gently swaying cloth-bodied decorative 'Jill in the box' music box. We are all 'glitterama', and we play 'Star Keeper' to delight and entertain her." The beautiful harlequin, comfily seated on her purple fringed and tasseled cushion, dreaming of clusters
of white-bright stars . . .
"But you forget," Dorothy bristled, still clutching her little dog Toto - "I am so exciting with my tornado blowing my house away. Kansas isn't Kansas anymore. And my music is the Munchkins Theme. Dance merrily with me. Don't miss the drama as I cringe from the ominous clouds and
fearful sight of the tornado . . ."
"Big deal - tornado, schmornado," groused forlorn clown Emmet Kelly. "I prefer 'Sharknado' myself. I play 'Good Times' - overplayed actually as I am so wound up I cannot even play now. I am content to sit on my snow-crusted log, reading the stock reports, bags of funny money at my feet. Shake me and green and gold stars cover me very nicely.
Pray don't bother me with your frivolity."
"You are so bizarre," chided Santa Claus, bare-headed and awash in glittering snow drifting so softly upon him and his object of affectionate worship. "Let us focus on what we should love, not pleasure ourselves with our selfish pride. Who does she love most? Pray, peer into my globe - what do you see?" Santa, hat by his side is kneeling in adoration before a precious wee babe in a manger - hands folded in prayer. The soothing strains of "O Come All Ye Faithful"
permeating the atmosphere with true love . . .
"Wait, wait! We are doing this all wrong! She is supposed to be writing about souvenirs purchased on vacations. I am the only one she should write about," projecting a note of sanity to the chorus of "I'm the most loved." SpongeBob Square Pants ventured animatedly. "Here I am, perched on the sand with all my special friends - why I am definitely all about vacations,
you see . . ."
Dorothy, Toto in hand, sniffed petulantly "You are all so de-brilliant. Who was purchased while on vacation? Who was the be-all end-all of all the dozens of choices offered at the gift shop? Who is the reigning queen of the souvenirs? Who was the most expensive?
Bow to me . . ."
"You claim royalty" chorused all the water globes gathered around Dorothy and her tornado. "You should have been purchased in Kansas, or at least from the Yellow Brick Road souvenir shops leading to Oz.
But we all know . . .
she bought you in New York!"
