cuts through a jungle.
tower above the gravel road.
It has rained.
Steam rises in the sun.
The shade is cool.
I walk with strangers. I miss my friends.
On a road like this, I need a friend.
Someone who understands
my joy of glittering raindrops; who sees
countless shades of green and green and green.
The dark and mystical, the velvet green,
and the pale green sifting the sunlight
My road is slippery
wet after the rain.
My shoes get stuck in the mud.
I walk on the grassy edge.
Someone shouts: "You have leeches on your legs!"
Horrible leeches have been hiding,
just waiting to attack some innocent by passer.
Suddenly I notice that the grass is full of leeches.
I want to get away from this road and find a better one.
A road without leeches.
I am somehow linked to the strangers who are with me.
I cannot turn back without them. I have to go on.
Higher up there are no leeches.
My road paved with beauty:
Beauty, painful as long-drawn-out childbirth.
Why is Beauty so painful?
Surrounded by colors:
Red and green,
blue and yellow.
in the morning sun.
saying Good night.
of a starlit night.
Melodies still playing
after the music has silenced.
Companionship of friends
after long separation.
A child's dark eyes
before nameless questions arise.
Pain can never be beautiful,
but beauty bears a nameless load of pain.
My road is lined with trees, their roots reach the solid rock.
