I just happen to read this on the 75th anniversary of D-Day. I have a lot of empathy for your man. It's to bad we do sometimes brush aside our heroes. Nicely done.
Well done! Sad but true of how we treat our elders.
Well written story! It's very true that we should learn from our elders. They have so much to teach us.
Since I am part of that gentleman's generation, I could identify with a lot of what he said (sans the greenery between his teeth). :-) I have observed and read about how much respect Orientals show their elders, whereas in our culture, "youth" is the focus and what everyone here emulates. Your writing is exceptional. I love some of your expressions and word choices. This is a prize-worthy entry.
Great point! I always try to be patient and listen when someone is talking to me - especially someone who is my elder. More people need to learn to listen.

Noticed a couple tiny, tiny things like a sudden switch to present tense in the third paragraph, but I'm being nitpicky.

Nicely done. Thanks for sharing!
This is delightful. I connected with the characters right away. The pacing was spot on and the ending was divine.
I enjoyed this very well-told story, and it leads me to think you have a caring heart and good rapport with people.
Congratulations on ranking 18 overall! Happy Dance!
