E - Elect to see past challenges in a new light. This doesn’t mean denying any difficulties that occurred, but it means looking for anything good that may have come out of an otherwise defeating situation.
F - Focus on what you’ve learned about yourself through your past experiences. Celebrate your strengths and also look for ways you can change and grow.
L - Let go of any bitterness you may feel toward others. This doesn’t mean you deny their wrongdoing nor make excuses for them. No. It means you follow the Lord’s guidance and free yourself of the effects of their words and actions.
E - Embrace the ways God has shown you his love, his patience, his mercy, and his grace. Take time to truly look back at how he’s shown himself to you over the years.
C - Concentrate on your moments of joy, peace, accomplishment, and success as well as the ways you’ve touched the lives of others. Make the most of these highlights, whether big or small. Replay and cement them in your memory.
T - Try to let go of regrets. Remind yourself that you didn’t have the benefit of today’s wisdom when you made past decisions. Accept God’s forgiveness for any wrongdoing. Look for anything positive that still came out of any wrong turns you may have made.
I - Imagine the peace you can have if you accept any ways that your life didn’t turn out as you hoped. Yes, you may have endured some deep disappointments. But you can still try to find things to be thankful for if you look at the past with the right mindset.
O - Overcome any bent you may have to relive the difficult times. It’s one thing to process any lingering feelings, but there’s no need to ruminate on what happened as if you’re going through it all over again.
N - Nurture yourself going forward, using all the lessons, strength, and divine wisdom you’ve gained through your life experiences. You can’t see your future, but you can use your past to enrich it, however it may unfold.
